Volunteer John Crenshaw
John Crenshaw is the lead coordinator for West Georgia Tennis
association, has lead his 4.5 men’s team to the State Championships for the
last two years, lead the Georgia men’s rankings last year, and is currently
the lead volunteer for Site A during the 2008 Senior League State
Championships. Basically, John could best be described a tennis LEADER!!
Crenshaw loves tennis across the border! He is more than happy
doing anything that is tennis related, whether it is playing individually,
on a league, volunteering or finding someone a team that they will love and
enjoy. The West Georgia Tennis Associations is one of the newest community
associations in Georgia, starting out only two years ago. John fearlessly
took on the role of Lead Coordinator, even though he had never been a
coordinator for any other CTA before. League coordinators can be used for
various things. Many people contact John for any questions they have about
the league, if they need players for their team, or if a player is looking
for a team that is their level. After just one year in the position, John
was awarded the Local League Coordinator of the year, which shows how much
effort Crenshaw puts into the promotion of tennis.
John’s own tennis is a whole different story! Most would assume
that John spends so much time helping other people play tennis, how could he
be any good? Well, think again! Crenshaw not only plays on a 4.5 team, but
is on the best team in the state! His Atlanta team just won the State
Championships last month. In 2007, he also won the State Championships with
his West Georgia team. Not only is John a great team player, but just last
year he was the best singles player over the age of forty in the state of
Georgia. Other rankings he earned were number three in the Southern Section
and number 31 in the nation. Don’t think he is just a singles player,
though. Crenshaw earned the ranking of number two in doubles last year in
the State of Georgia.
Hilton Head is the place to be for good tennis. Crenshaw grew up
on the island where just about everyone played! Lucky for his little
eight-year-old self, he just happened to like the sport that was right at
his front door. Hilton Head hosted, and still hosts, many tournaments all
over the island. Crenshaw became experienced with competitive play at a
young age, giving him an early preparation for what he faces now. He earned
rankings in 14s, 16s and 18s as a junior.
Is John better at volunteer work or tennis? It’s pretty hard to
make that determination, considering he recently won both the Lead
Coordinator of the Year and the State Championships title. John puts a lot
of effort in everything he does, and not to mention he is one of the nicest
people at Cooper Creek Tennis Center this weekend. Just keep in mind that
John is volunteering his entire weekend and working very long and hard hours
to make sure that everyone is happy. If you can, stop by the desk and show
your appreciation, or congratulate him on also being State Champion.
